This short break takes you to a small Kodava village of Kakkabe with sublime mountain views, waterfalls and bounty of rainforest. There you won’t see much of civilization or modern amenities. It’s rather about disconnecting from everyday life and taking a deep breath of crisp mountain air.

Leave Bangalore before sunrise and follow the South-West direction until you reach the hidden natural treasure. Kakkabe is a charming village in the heart of Kodagu rainforest that used to be the largest honey producer in South-East Asia. After a virus that unfortunately has wiped out the resident bee population this area started to attract hikers and nature lovers. They decided to march through the clouds to rediscover the great mountain – Thadiyendamol and sleepy Kakkabe hidden in its shadow. After the half day journey check in to your home stay and enjoy sumptuous lunch freshly prepared from local ingredients. Later go for a hike to Nilakandi Waterfall. Over there and on the way blend into the natural habitat of barking deer, pangolin, flying squirrel and honey-loving South Indian marten. Relaxed evening with a bonfire, sounds of wildlife around and stargazing.

Today is the challenge day. You will go for a longer and a bit more demanding trek that takes you to the top of majestic mountain Thadiyendamol. Exotic sounding name derives from Malayalam language meaning ‘I’m the tallest’ (thadi means broad, yenda is mine and mol is top). From the height of 5,730 ft above the sea level you can forget all the mundane and feel heavenly free gazing at vast green valleys and peaks around. With some extra luck which basically means cloudless sky you can even get a glimpse of the coastline on the West. Once you descend from the highest peak in Coorg take some rest and delicious lunch. Spending afternoon leisurely under canopy of rich rainforest is the loose plan. It’s your chance to fully relax, listen to birds or do some fishing.

Igguthappa Temple and some pleasant strolls are on your agenda today. After checking out in the morning, take a long walk to the place of worship of the rain god. Igguthappa is a Hindu god with interesting portfolio of powers, being the lord of bounty and apparently he can make your any wish come true! At this small temple everyone is being offered a Prasad (religious offering) and also a free three-course meal of payasam. After this little spiritual detour take the road back to Bangalore.
